Vrindavan, a town in the district of Mathura, India is the holy city known for its ancient and contemporary temples. Most of the temples are devoted to the memory of Lord Krishna and His accomplishes. About 11 kilometers away from the city of Mathura, Vrindavan is the place, where Lord Krisha is believed to spend his childhood days.The town has  temples which are dedicated to the worship of Radha and Krishna and is considered holy or sacred by Vaishnavism sect of Hindus.

History of Vrindavan

Vrindavan is its roots in ancient India. Hindus regard it as a revered pilgrimage site. Govind Deo temple, which was built in 1590, at the time when the foundations for the town of Vrindavan were being laid. It was Chaitanya Mahprabhu who rediscovered the town of Vrindavan later.

Madan Mohan Temple

It is located near the Kali Ghat was built by Kapur Ram Das of Multan. The old temple in Vrindavan, it is known with the saint Chaitanya Mahaprabhu . The idol of Lord Madan Gopal was shifted from the shrine to Karauli in Rajasthan for safe keeping during Aurangzeb’s rule, who was very oppressive for Hindu devotees. A replica of the original deity is worshiped at the temple. It has an amazing architecture.. Since you have to climb about 50 stairs to reach the temple situated on a small heap, very few tourists isit there. The view of Yamuna is quite beautiful from the temple.

Meera Bai Temple

It is located at southern side of Shahji temple near Nidhivan. Some hagiography state she miraculously disappeared by merging into an idol of Krishna at Dwarika in 1547. While miracles are contested by scholars for the lack of historical evidence, it is widely acknowledged that Meera dedicated her life to Hindu deity Krishna, composing songs of devotion and was one of the most important poet-sant of the Bhakti movement period.

Vrindavan Chandrodaya Mandir

It is a temple which is under-construction at Mathura by ISKCON. At cost of ₹300 crore, it will be the tallest temple in world as and when its construction is completed.

Banke Bihari Temple

Built in 1862 after the image of Banke-Bihari was discovered in Nidhi Vana by Swami Haridas, it is one of the most revered temple of Vrindavan and Mathura region. Dedicated to Lord Krishna, during Jhulan Yatra, the swing festival of Lord Krishna, there are a number of silver-plated and some solid silver ornamented swings, which are shown at this time to the deotees. The main day of Jhulan Yatra is the third day of the waxing moon, at which time Shri Bankey Bihari is placed on a golden swing.

Shri Bankey Bihari comes off his altar and can be seen in full view on the last five days of the month of Phalguna, during the Indian festival of Holi. He can be seen with four gopis, who are seen only at this time.

Bhajankuti Ashram

It was established by Bhagawat Sharan Maharaj Ji who came here from Nepal. This ashram has been a symbol of Nepal and India Friendship. This ashram remained unaffected even in the times of turmoil. Several thousands of  devotees has been part of thisone and a half century old ashrams and contributed for the Shri Vrindavandham’s diverse heritage.

Prem Mandir

Prem Mandir is a spiritual complex situated on a 54-acre site on the outskirts of Vrindavan dedicated to divine love. The temple structure was established by spiritual guru Kripalu Maharaj. The main structure built in marble and figures of Krishna cover the main temple. The temple is a masterpiece of architecture and people from the world over visit to pay their reverence.
